Plug-in hybrid leasing

Short distances on pure electric power, long journeys with the internal combustion engine: plug-in hybrids are the bridging technology for anyone who already today wants to drive an electric car without compromising on range. With Porsche Bank’s plug-in hybrid leasing, you can finance this technology with predictable monthly instalments — with or without residual value risk, as you choose.

What is a plug-in hybrid?

A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) combines an internal combustion engine with an electric motor, the battery of which is charged at a charging point or wallbox. Depending on the model and battery size, the all-electric range of current PHEVs is between around 60 and over 130 kilometres (according to WLTP). For commuters with daily journeys of less than 50 km, this means that the majority of their journeys can be completed in all-electric mode — the internal combustion engine only kicks in for longer journeys or when the battery is flat.

The difference compared with a full hybrid (HEV) is significant: an HEV charges exclusively via regenerative braking and can only travel a few kilometres in pure electric mode. A PHEV, on the other hand, replaces the internal combustion engine over long distances in everyday use — provided it is charged regularly.

Why leasing a plug-in hybrid makes sense

PHEV technology is currently evolving noticeably faster than conventional powertrains: larger batteries, higher DC charging capacities, more efficient control software. When you buy a car, you tie up a lot of money without knowing exactly how much it will be worth later on. However, if you opt for leasing, you stay up to date with the latest technology and – if you wish – pass the residual value risk on to Porsche Bank.

Leasing also helps preserve your liquidity: you only pay for the use of the car over the agreed term, not the full purchase price. This leaves your savings free for investments, home improvements or charging infrastructure.

Your benefits at a glance

Lower ongoing costs

In Austria, the NoVA tax and engine-related insurance tax depend on CO₂ emissions. PHEVs with WLTP figures of 30–50 g/km are therefore cheaper to run than comparable pure combustion-engine vehicles — when leasing, these savings are directly reflected in a lower calculation basis and thus in the monthly instalment.

Affordable electricity costs for everyday use

Those who charge at home using a wallbox can cover electric kilometres at a fraction of the cost of running a combustion engine vehicle — particularly relevant given rising fuel prices.

No range anxiety

Heading off on holiday to Italy? No need to make a detour to a fast-charging station. The internal combustion engine takes over as soon as the battery runs out. For frequent drivers and families, this is often the decisive factor in favour of this over a conventional electric car.

Transfer the residual value risk — optional

With rental leasing, Porsche Bank bears the residual value risk. This is an advantage that should not be underestimated, particularly with PHEVs, whose second-hand prices are heavily dependent on government incentives and technological advances.

4 steps to leasing a plug-in hybrid

Calculate your instalments

Enter the lease term, mileage and any deposit into the car4me leasing calculator. You’ll see straight away which models fit your budget.

Apply — online or at a dealership

Submit your leasing enquiry directly online or at a partner dealership near you.

Financing approval

Have your creditworthiness checked and receive a personalised quote within 1–2 working days. Business customers may need to provide additional documentation.

Handover and charging point

Once the leasing contract has been signed, your dealer will coordinate the handover. At the same time, it’s worth planning your home wallbox — a PHEV only realises its cost advantage with regular charging.

*Availability

The PHEV leasing range is subject to constant change in line with the manufacturers’ model cycles. Individual variants may be unavailable at short notice.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on plug-in hybrid leasing

A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is charged from a mains socket or wallbox and, depending on the model, can travel 60–130 kilometres on electric power alone. A full hybrid (HEV) charges its significantly smaller battery exclusively via regenerative braking, and driving on electric power alone is only possible for short distances.

No. At present, there is no government funding for plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) in Austria. The funding currently available for fully electric vehicles has also been exhausted. However, many manufacturers and dealers offer attractive discount schemes, e-mobility bonuses or special leasing terms, which can make the switch more affordable.

Yes. Porsche Bank offers leasing with a zero-euro deposit. A voluntary lump-sum payment of up to 50 per cent of the net purchase price reduces the monthly instalment accordingly.

Typically between 36 and 60 months. The optimal term depends on your planned annual mileage and your preferred monthly instalment.

It is not strictly necessary. With certain models, charging can also be carried out using a standard household socket. However, a PHEV only becomes truly practical with a wallbox, which charges significantly faster (and may also allow bidirectional charging) and ensures the battery is regularly topped up for everyday journeys. Without regular charging, the fuel-saving benefits are lost.

Formally, it is not compulsory, but it is strongly recommended. The vehicle remains the property of Porsche Bank for the duration of the loan — comprehensive insurance protects you from having to make large additional payments in the event of a total write-off or theft.
